Teaching Social Media @SFUsurrey and looking for feedback
Finally, Simon Fraser University is bringing a course to the undergraduate students that’ll explore Social Media and its influence on business. It’ll be a fourth year Business course, BUS 495. And… I’ll be one of the Instructors alongside Jan Kietzmann. It’ll be a fun course, with lots of discussions and project applications. We’re looking for stellar & fun students to join the class – so if that’s you, enroll
Here’s a tidbit of what we’ll be covering:
No prior Social Media knowledge is required. Topics will introduce and discuss “social” frameworks (e.g., reciprocity and fairness), concepts (e.g., community building, conversation curation, virality), and Social Media ethics, terms, tools and techniques (e.g., for measuring and monitoring activity and ROI). Together, these will provide a well-rounded perspective for Social Media newcomers and experts alike. For students with relevant experience, Bus495 will be an opportunity to reflect, question and improve their own approaches to managing Social Media.
Jan and I will be super flexible with the course topics. It’s the first time SFU will have a course like this and we’re looking for feedback on Topics from students and industry professionals.
For students – Whether you’re interested in enrolling or not…what’re you hoping to achieve out of the course, and/or what’re you wanting to learn? Suggestions for projects are welcomed as well.
For Professionals - What about Social Media do you think Students will need to be excellent in before they step out into the workforce?
